What is milk chocolate? Solid chocolate, when combined with either powdered, liquid or condensed milk, is known as milk chocolate.  The most popular of all candy bars sold contain milk chocolate.  Milk chocolate is also a popular ingredient in baking, specialty coffee drinks, and hot chocolate.

But you’re probably asking yourself, is milk chocolate good for you? According to a 2015 study, “Eating up to 3.5 ounces (100 grams) of chocolate daily is linked with lowered risks of heart disease and stroke, scientists reported on June 15th in the journal Heart. That amount of chocolate is equal to about 22 Hershey’s Kisses, two Hershey bars or two bags of M&M’s, depending on how you want to divvy up this good news.” You can read more about the finding here.

In honor of National Milk Chocolate Day, we are sharing a healthy and delicious recipe with you. To make it Diabetes friendly, we suggest using sugar-free milk chocolate, which is readily available in all supermarkets.

Milk Chocolate Popcorn

  • 12 cups popped popcorn
  • 1 package Hershey® Sugar-Free Milk Chocolate Morsels

1. Using a hot air popper, freshly pop the kernels—Alternatively, pop on the stove with a tablespoon oil. Once the popcorn is fully popped, transfer to a large salad bowl.
2. Place chopped chocolate in a microwave safe bowl covered with a paper towel and melt for 45 seconds to 1 minute. The key is for the chocolate chips to completely melt and have a smooth consistency. Stir and reheat if necessary.
3. Drizzle the hot chocolate over the popcorn kernels and stir well to combine. Spread on parchment paper and allow to cool for 10-15 minutes. Enjoy!
